Yellow, prevailed.
Liberalism finally found its way down to reign the country. Last May 10, 2010, Philippines started to make a history by the success of the highly coveted first automated election. The utmost power has eventually detoured on the hands of Liberal Party’s presidential bet Benigno “Noynoy” Aquino Jr. The story never ends up with whoever wins the presidential race. The watchdog of the state will be observing things closely for the next six years whether the “change” that has been established overrated for the past campaign period has met the standard and expectations that Filipino countrymen are anticipating for this fresh administration. The question is whether this half-baked man in yellow may be able to lead the country straight to the highways of hell or up to the stairway to heaven.
“Kung walang corrupt, walang mahirap.” It is more than a poster or a slogan. It is a thought for this new administration that they may be able to inculcate to the Filipinos. It seems that they are giving an assurance that indeed, corruption is suicidal to every state. That corruption will never be a part of their leadership. That corruption is inevitable but avoidable. That corruption is simply not them.
The first week of Noynoy Aquino (recently branded as P.Noy) is considered as crucial stage wherein he can showcase a glimpse of his promises to the country. The seven days of governance will become a mirror image of what this country may become for the next six years. He vowed that the foremost duty of his presidency is to lift the nation from poverty through honest and effective governance.
“No more sirens, no more short cuts. No more bribes. It is time for us to work together once more.” As an initial fulfillment of his general program of actions, he implemented the eradication of private sirens. This step created the impression that P.Noy is strongly for the people though on the other side of the fence, it made a big deal for the other electoral post. On his first meeting with the cabinet, he was marked late due to heavy traffic along EDSA. On the eyes of his critic began, P.Noy, despite his effort to blend in with masses, he cannot do the same ordinary things because he is simply not an ordinary icon of the state. Sirens for electoral posts is more than a privilege but is considered a necessity.
On July 01, 2010, President Aquino released his first memorandum that declares all non-career executive position in the government vacant as of June 30, 2010. The next day, people began to be hysterical when the Presidential spokesperson Edwin Lacierda withdrawn and replaced with a more comprehensive memorandum. This move leads them to the total skepticism towards Noynoy Aquino’s government. On the positive view, replacing it with a “fine-tuned” memorandum for the better understanding is a good character in leadership. However, it is expected that they will act efficiently when it comes to releasing of public and private documents to avoid unnecessary disruptions.
His first seven days is just a beginning. We will be better on its middle and we will leave a mark as we end. The president is just an instrument of change. At the end of the day, we will make things happen. We must walk by faith, and not by sight. Believing that an effective and honest governance is not much of a dream but a reality that relies to us. It is never too late to change. We will make a difference for the next six years, for the next ten years. For the next who-knows years. President Noynoy Aquino, regardless of his color underneath, still, deserves a chance to prove his worth.
